TETE CITY TO RECEIVE METICAL SQUARE

This morning, May 9, the Governor of the Banco de Moçambique (GBM), Rogério Zandamela, and the Mayor of the Tete City Council, César de Carvalho, signed a memorandum of understanding for the construction of a Metical Square in Tete city.

The initiative falls under the actions that the Banco de Moçambique (BM) has been undertaking nationwide, in order to foster the dignity of one of the most important symbols of our sovereignty, the Metical, and set examples of preserving our history for current and future generations.

The GBM started his speech by expressing solidarity for the families directly and indirectly affected by the tropical depression, “Ana”.

Rogério Zandamela went on to state that the memorandum signing proves an important step towards following through with the institution's commitment of building Metical squares in all provinces. “With this step, we intend, on the one hand, to promote the Metical's role as the symbol of the sovereignty of our nation and, on the other, to build on the beauty and potential of Tete city, and ultimately contribute to the promotion and preservation of the country's historical and cultural heritage”, he denotes in his speech.
