FINANCIAL INCLUSION INDICATORS – Q4 2024

The financial Inclusion indicators available here render a detailed analysis on access to financial services in Mozambique over Q4 2024, considering geographical, demographic and usage aspects, broken down by gender and areas (urban and rural).  The report also presents data on the distribution of access points across the country's 154 districts.

The reporting period recorded a positive change of 7% in the total number of access points from the previous quarter, driven by a growth of 8% in mobile money agents and 2% in microcredit operators between September and December 2024.

Moreover, the highlights are as follows:

  • Ongoing rising number of mobile money accounts per 100 adults, which stood at 109% in Q4, following 99% in Q3, suggesting instances of more than one account per user; This rise is supported by easier access and use, interoperability between mobile money networks and banks, as well as more widespread related products and services.
  • Slight increase in bank accounts per 100 adults, from 32.5 to 33.0, an increase of 1.5%, underpinned by combined drivers such as the introduction of the basic bank account by Notice No. 6/GBM/2024 and/or the institutions' buy-in of bank account payments for workers, students and pensioners.
