On Friday (14), the fourth edition of the “Economics for All” school competition wrapped up, bringing together Grade 9 and Grade 12 students from 22 selected secondary schools across the country.

The competition, which involved 4,400 students and aims to provide them with a basic understanding of economics and the role of the central bank, comprised three stages. The first featured a true-or-false questionnaire, from which the 30 highest-scoring students were selected. They advanced to the next stage, which involved producing essays, poems and videos, with the best students from each school subsequently selected.

The final stage consisted of an oral assessment, culminating in the selection of the winners by an independent panel appointed by the Provincial Directorates of Education. Select teachers from each participating school also served on the panel, giving them an opportunity to acquire basic knowledge of economics and central banking that will prove useful in the teaching and learning process.

Prizes were awarded to the three winners in each of the essay, poetry and video categories, for both grade levels.

The closing ceremonies featured a range of cultural and recreational activities in each province. The Directors of the Banco de Moçambique branches, or their representatives, presented prizes and certificates to the winners at the schools where the competition took place.
