BANCO DE MOÇAMBIQUE PRESENTS CEPI REPORT AT UNIVERSIDADE SAVE - MAXIXE BRANCH

Yesterday morning (2), the Banco de Moçambique presented the Economic Outlook and Inflation Forecasts Report (CEPI) to the academic community of Universidade Save - Maxixe Branch, in a session well attended by the students of this University, which was represented by Director Crisalita Funes and managers of other academic units.

In attendance on behalf of the Banco de Moçambique were the Adviser to the Governor and Director of the Communications Office, Umaia Mahomed, who explained that the session concerned the communications strategy for monetary policy decisions; the Director of the Economic Research Department, Carlos Baptista, who presented the report; the Director of the Markets and Reserves Management Department, Pinho Ribeiro; the Director of the Inhambane Branch, Jorge Namurás; the Adviser to the Communications Office, Filimão Canda; staff members of the Economic Research Department and the branch. 

In his address, Carlos Baptista explained that the monetary policy decisions taken by the Banco de Moçambique follow from the assessment of the domestic and international landscape, and mainly aim to promote price stability, and that the Interbank Money Market Rate (MIMO) is its main instrument to achieve this goal. 

Following a detailed explanation of the monetary policy transmission method and domestic and international drivers assessed by the Monetary Policy Committee, in its session on March 27 this year, Baptista made known the decisions taken by the body and publicly announced on the same date.

In the heated discussion session that followed the presentation, students asked several questions, particularly about inflation calculation methodology, the impact of monetary policy on macroeconomic stability, current monetary policy challenges, and the importance of central bank independence.

At the end of the session, the Director of Universidade Save - Maxixe Branch thanked the Banco de Moçambique for the initiative and recognized the event's importance for the academic community.

Today, on April 3, the Banco de Moçambique will present the CEPI report at the Saint Thomas University of Mozambique in Xai-Xai.
