The Banco de Moçambique has issued Notice No. 1/GBM/2026, of 25 February, establishing the Mozambique Instant Payment System and approving the Regulation thereof. The Regulation sets out an electronic retail payment mechanism that operates 24 hours a day on a continuous and uninterrupted basis, including weekends, public holidays and official bridge days, through which funds are made immediately available to beneficiaries.

The establishment of this system aims to diversify the payment instruments available in the market, strengthen financial inclusion, promote the digitalisation of transactions and foster innovation within the national financial system.
