GOVERNOR ROGÉRIO ZANDAMELA LAUNCHES THE SIXTH EDITION OF THE REGULATORY SANDBOX

Today, the Governor of the Banco de Moçambique, Rogério Zandamela, officially launched the 6th edition of the Regulatory Sandbox, highlighting the importance of technological innovation in the financial sector. During the ceremony, he congratulated the five fintechs approved in the previous edition and welcomed the 11 new participants, selected from a pool of 19 applicants.

According to Zandamela, the fintechs in this edition are introducing innovative solutions based on blockchain and Artificial Intelligence, applied to digital payments, credit, savings, financial education, and identification. He stressed that these innovations have the potential to drive financial inclusion and strengthen Mozambique’s economy.

The Governor acknowledged the challenges faced by the financial sector due to the global and national economic landscape but underscored that innovation and resilience are essential in turning bottlenecks into opportunities.

João Gaspar, President of the Mozambique Fintechs Association (FINTECH.MZ), was optimistic regarding the previous results of the Sandbox but pointed out challenges that require the Banco de Moçambique to take action. He renewed the association’s commitment to collaborating with the Bank and the Mozambican Interbank Society to ensure the project's ongoing success.

Teotónio Comiche, President of the Mozambican Banking Association (AMB), acknowledged the sector’s challenges and advocated for the creation of conditions to overcome them. He cheerfully highlighted the growing interest of fintechs in the Regulatory Sandbox.

During the event, the fintechs Ologa, 3AK, Vodafone M-Pesa, Skud, and Piminder received participation certificates and are now eligible to apply for a license at the Banco de Moçambique to operate in the market.
