FINANCIAL INCLUSION INDICATORS - Q3 2024

The financial Inclusion indicators available here report the statistics for the third quarter of the current year, spanning across geographical access, demographic access, and use of financial services nationwide, broken down by gender and area (urban and rural). The document also includes the distribution of access points to financial services across Mozambique's 154 districts.

In the reporting period, overall, there was a positive change of 47% total access points compared to the previous quarter, driven by the significant increase in mobile money agents, which grew by 60% between June and September 2024. This expansion strengthens financial inclusion in previously underserved areas, contributing to broader and more equitable access to financial services in all regions of the country.

The highlights are as follows:

  • Ongoing rising number of mobile money accounts per 100 adults, which was stood at 99% in the third quarter, following 95% in the second quarter, associated with customer acquisition campaigns carried out nationwide by mobile money networks;
  • Increase in bank accounts per 100 adults, from 30.9 to 32.5, an increase of 5%, driven by the simplification of account opening requirements;
  • Reduction between the second and third quarters of bank cards per 100 adults, from 19.0 to 17.0 cards, due to the decommissioning of some card lines.
